Maine?s state motto is Vacationland. With Portland being a quick 2 hour drive from Boston, it makes for an easy weekend trip, or even a long day trip. BeantownEats recently took an over night trip to Portland, and this week we will show you how to eat your way through Portland, one meal at a time. First up, breakfast at Bintliff?s Cafe.
We got several recommendations for this Portland staple, both from our hotel concierge AND the hotel bartender, a 16-year native of Portland. It?s about a mile from the Old Port area at 98 Portland Street.
If you are so inclined, start out with a bloody Mary. Celery salted rim and beautiful garnish complete this well-mixed, spicy and home-made breakfast/brunch cocktail.
I ordered the Acadian omelet, which was possibly the eat dish at the table, especially for any omelet or egg lover. Filled with andouille sausage, spinach, red onion and pepperjack cheese, this omelet doesn?t over do it with the eggs, leaving the flavors of the filling to shine, just like they should.
The classic Tuscan French Toast was light, fluffy and irresistibly good.
The Buttermilk Pancakes were a little disappointing, overcooked and lacking flavor. Be sure to ask for the pure maple syrup, which was not offered with the pancakes, but definitely worth the extra few dollars for pure Maine syrup.
The Applewood smoked bacon Jon ordered as a side with the pancakes was cooked crispy, as ordered, with a nice smokey taste.
The old-school atmosphere of the Bintliff was much to be enjoyed. We definitely recommend it as a breakfast place for omelet and French toast lovers alike.
What?s your favorite brunch food??
