Thursday, Maryland Police inspected commercial trucks and buses as part of a safety campaign. They inspected vehicles traveling the Capital Beltway in Prince George?s County. Some drivers? licenses were suspended, while others were arrested. The roadway was identified by authorities as a ?commercial vehicle high crash corridor,? therefore encouraging safety enforcement efforts. Recently, fatal bus crashes have attracted attention to whether or not vehicles driving through the area are following safety regulations. 351 vehicles were inspected, and 108 tickets and 128 warnings were issued. 35 were pulled from service due to serious equipment violations, and 25 drivers were removed for having incorrect logbooks, driving over the permitted number of hours, and not having a proper license.
According to news reports, two drivers were arrested for outstanding warrants. The US Transportation Secretary described those companies as ?a serious threat to innocent travelers.? As an Alexandria auto accident lawyer, I hope that nobody is harmed by an unsafe vehicle. My thoughts are with those who are harmed. If you or a loved one were hurt in an auto accident, discuss your case with an Alexandria personal injury attorney who can evaluate your claim, assess your case, help defend your rights, and answer any legal questions you have concerning your case.
