Egypt hardline Islamist party heals rift, for now

CAIRO (AP) ? Spokesmen for a party representing Egypt's ultraconservative Islamists say a leadership dispute that threatened to break up the group, the country's second-largest political bloc, has been resolved.

The Al-Nour Party rocketed out of nowhere after Egypt's 2011 uprising to take 25 percent of the seats in last year's parliamentary elections, just behind the Muslim Brotherhood. But a schism erupted last month when some political leaders tried to shake off the control of clerics.

Spokesman Yousry Hammad of the original leadership and Nader Bakkar of the clerical camp said Saturday the current head of the party, Emad Abdel-Ghafour, will stay in his position.

Details of the agreement were not immediately available. It comes a day before a state committee was to interfere to settle the dispute.

NL and AL Wild Card Game Preview and Predictions | Next Level ...

This year the new rules for the Wild Card round will be put into effect, with a one game playoff deciding the fates of four teams.

In the American League the Baltimore Orioles, who failed to overtake the AL East from the Yankees, make the trip to Arlington Texas to face off against the Texas Rangers. Meanwhile, the Rangers are a team licking their wounds still in the midst of utter shock after relenting their strangle hold on the AL West to the Oakland A?s.

The Rangers are the two time American League championship victors, but have failed to get over the hump in the World Series. Their calling card has been their consistency, good pitching and big bats which rivals the likes of the Yankees. The Orioles are a team who has too, thrived on the long ball and have a knack for getting clutch runs in.

The Rangers will hand the ball over to Yu Darvish, who although is a rookie in the Major Leagues dominated for seven seasons back in Japan including championship games. For the Orioles, after whittling down their choices to Joe Saunders and Steven Johnson, Joe Saunders came out as the pick. A gutsy risk by Buck Showalter given that Johnson seemed like the more probable candidate given his better record and ERA, not to mention the fact that Joe Saunders has never won against the Rangers.

My prediction: Given the one game aspect of the wild card, it?s virtually impossible to pick one team for certain?anything can happen. But I like the Texas Rangers at home to put on a show with that power hitting they?re known for, and to take out their rage on their season shortcomings on the still young and inexperienced Orioles.

The winner will go on to face the New York Yankees.

Over in the NL the defending champion St Louis Cardinals take on the Atlanta Braves in Atlanta. The Braves come in with a strong 94 win season under their belt, with their vet Chipper Jones putting in his fair share and more in what will be his last go around the post season. The Cardinals have survived the losses of Pujols and La Russa and find themselves again as the underdog in the playoffs.

Kyle Lohse will be will be the starting pitcher for the Braves, and brings with him a 16-3 record. The Cardinals will put in Kris Medlen who?s 10-1 in the regular season. The Braves have shown to fare very well against right handed pitchers, and its that power that they will need if they hope to persevere.

The Cardinals lead the NL in hits and in on base percentage, so the Braves pitching staff will have their work cut out for them. Their closer Jason Motte is tied for the most saves in the National League, so I give the Cardinals the edge both in hitting and in pitching.

My Prediction: Give me the Cardinals playing the part of comeback kid and spoiler against the Braves. Sadly, I don?t think Chipper Jones will live out his dream of going out in the world series, as the Cardinals just seem too much like the ticking timebombs of the NL.

The winner will go to face the Washinton Nationals.

ABINGDON, Va. (AP) ? The cheering stopped on Mitt Romney's campaign plane Friday morning.

The day before, aides had whistled and clapped when the Denver control tower commended the Republican presidential nominee's debate performance. It was a rare moment of exuberance for a campaign that had fallen behind President Barack Obama in a number of polls.

The euphoria ended after the morning report that the nation's unemployment rate had dropped to 7.8 percent, its lowest level in Obama's presidency. Romney and his team sat stone-faced and quiet on the flight to Virginia's coal country, taking in the good news for the country that's bad news for their political prospects.

The former businessman has staked his candidacy on the notion that the economy needs a turnaround. So, even as Republicans elsewhere conceded progress, Romney described the positive report in negative terms.

"This is not what a real recovery looks like," he declared in a written statement less than an hour after the job growth numbers came out.

Campaigning outside an Abingdon equipment company, Romney dismissed the report as evidence that millions of unemployed Americans had simply given up.

"The unemployment rate, as you know, this year has come down very, very slowly, but it's come down nonetheless," Romney told more than 3,000 supporters in this small western Virginia community. "The reason it's come down this year is primarily due to the fact that more and more people have just stopped looking for work."

Last month's improvement is attributed to more people finding work, according to data released by the Labor Department.

The unemployment rate fell to 7.8 percent in September, dropping below 8 percent for the first time in nearly four years. The Labor Department says employers added 114,000 jobs in September. The economy also created 86,000 more jobs in July and August than first estimated.

Wages rose in September and more people started looking for work.

The report gave Obama fresh evidence to argue that his economic policies are working. It also gave the president an opportunity to suggest that Romney is rooting against the economic recovery.

"Today's news certainly is not an excuse to try to talk down the economy to score a few political points," Obama said at a rally in northern Virginia. "It's a reminder that this country has come too far to turn back now."

Romney aides have long worried that circumstances out of their control ? particularly an economic surge close to the election ? could undermine Romney's candidacy. One more monthly unemployment report is due before Election Day, so Friday's numbers could leave a lasting impact on Americans who are already casting ballots in states that allow early voting.

Romney's campaign has adapted in recent months as noneconomic issues surfaced. In particular, the former Massachusetts governor has broadened his message to include more focus on foreign policy and the military. He's set to deliver a foreign policy speech on Monday.

But the longtime businessman launched his campaign on the premise that only he can repair the American economy. His central message in countless rallies, campaign ads and interviews is that Obama isn't doing enough to create jobs.

"These are tough times in this community," Romney said in Abingdon after meeting with coal miners who have been laid off. The crowd cheered as he added, "I'd take America in a very different direction."

It is part of?$2 million in grants?the Safeway Foundation is giving back to community health programs and hospitals to launch grass-roots projects for the prevention and treatment of childhood obesity in the Bay Area and nationwide.

Safeway?presented?the grant to the?Center at its Oakland?store at?3550 Fruitvale Blvd. The grant will help fund school-community kitchens as a resource to educate school children and community members on health including programs in Oakland. The program also involves a partnership with?the Alameda County Department of Health.

The ?Innovative Approaches to Preventing Childhood Obesity? grants are a part of an overall outreach and commitment to community health that has become synonymous with Safeway Inc.

Tracy Anderson was back on morning television today talking about women and pregnancy, but it shouldn?t land her in as much hot water as it did last month! In an interview for DuJour she said, ?A lot of women use pregnancy as an excuse to let their bodies go, and that?s the worst thing.? This morning on TODAY she defended that the quote was taken out of context while promoting her newest fitness product.

?I?ve built my career around empowering women,? she said, as her four-month-old daughter Penelope bounced on her knee. Tracy was there to promote her new fitness DVD series for pregnant women, called The Pregnancy Project. She?s also no stranger to excessive weight gain during pregnancy, putting on 60 pounds during her first 13 years ago.

The nine DVDs guide a woman through her entire pregnancy so she can stay fit, active, and healthy for her growing baby and care for herself at the same time. To hear how it works, model and actress Molly Sims joined Tracy Anderson on the show to talk about how she?s worked with the trainer and The Pregnancy Project for her own recent pregnancy (son Brooks is 3.5 months). Tracy called Molly a ?shining example? of someone who used her program to ?go through her pregnancy and feel connected to the baby.?

Molly described how each month with The Pregnancy Project your focus shifts to something different like arms, legs, or the butt. The videos were shot in real time, following Tracy?s most recent pregnancy. More than just Tracy?s tried-and-true workout philosophy, users receive nutrition guidance and information from doctors, other moms, and even Tracy?s clients.

?It?s overwhelming what your body goes through,? said Molly, admitting to a 50-pound weight gain during her own pregnancy. ?It?s hard during and after.? And the pressure we put on ourselves and by society doesn?t make it any easier.

?The pressure is part of the problem,? said Molly. ?Because we feel like we have to look like 20-year-olds. It?s not realistic.?

Molly isn?t new to the Tracy Anderson Method, she was interviewed as early as fall 2010 by Health Magazine on how Tracy helped her stay in shape. She credits the trainer with helping her stay in shape, manage a healthy pregnancy, and with helping her to recuperate her body since delivering Brooks.

Tracy closed by saying that an active lifestyle for mom isn?t just great for her in innumerable ways, but that ?it sets a great example to the child if you instill the importance of exercise in your life.? With such fit mamas, Brooks and Penelope are no doubt on track for healthy lives themselves.
