A popular bookmaker, William Hill in London, has taken a bet from a world-record gambler, who is striving to buy a house with his winnings!
The unnamed 33 year old man has placed 26 consecutive winning bets with a branch of William Hill, netting him a whopping 160,000(GBP) since he started betting in March of this year! The bookmakers William Hill are reporting this as their biggest-ever tennis bet.
The man has now put 120,000(GBP) from his ?pot? on Serbian tennis star Novak Djokovic to overcome Roger Federer in the French Open.
It is the tenth time in the run of successes that the man has backed Djokovic to win, although his most recent triumph came when staking 117,000(GBP) on rival player Rafael Nadal.
Total winnings will break the 200k(GBP) barrier should Djokovic dispose of the Swiss player at Roland Garros.
The bet is the 27th in a run of bets from the man, all of which have won so far.
He started with an 8,400(GBP) bet back in March and his pot has since reached 161k(GBP).
?This is a very bold gamble ? taking the currently high-flying Djokovic to beat the previously invincible Federer. Six-figure bets on tennis are so rare as to be almost an endangered species, and in 30-plus years in the business I cannot recall having seen, or even heard of, a tennis bet of this size,? said Hill?s spokesman Graham Sharpe.
Sharpe went on to say ?We can think of no other punter to compare him to ? he told staff when he placed his first bet that he hoped to win enough to buy himself a house ? well, he can already afford a small place out in the sticks, but a mansion in Mayfair may take a few more winning bets!
