MamaBlogger365 - Spring, Motherhood & Friendships by Stacey ...

We are so pleased to welcome regular excerpts from Stacey Battat and Kiwi Publishing, home of the Thin Threads series of books. Want to know more? Visit www.thinthreads.com for more story samples or to buy the book!

There are days when we are truly present, and can breathe deeply and take in the beauty of the moment. We must seek out more of those moments to enrich our lives as well as all of our relationships! We have been given that ?spring-like? gift this week in the North East (little though do we truly know about long-term repercussions).

Our Thin Threads of Moms & Grandma books are stories about drinking in the moments we love and recognize the small connections that ARE fresh and beautiful about motherhood!

There was the time I was with my 3-year-old son, when I found a beautiful and unique (huge) shell on an isolated beach in my area. I was so excited to share it with him, and when I handed it to him, he ? in pure silliness ? dropped it and it shattered on the boardwalk. I became very angry and wanted to teach him the value of taking care of things, but as I raised my voice a bit, I saw his face contort? and I had my mini ?thin thread? moment. We had been experiencing such joyful the moments of beach bliss, holding hands in the sand, swinging and running with abandoned laughter , and I almost ruined the moment by making the anger about the broken shell my reality. The way we see and respond is gift we give our children. I just picked him up and swung him in the air and his smile was the smile in my heart.

?Children learn to smile from their parents.? ? Shinichi Suzuki

There were many moments of sweet silence in the car-pooling both of my pre-teens to their myriad and multiple art, music, theatre, martial arts and dance lessons. Those moments are still with me in a magical way, as they bonded us in a common purpose. Often we would reflect upon the smallest details in their lives, which opened up and connected us in the listening, while we drove side by side.

Even though I occasionally complained to myself about those schleps, I made every effort to change my thinking quickly, and remember how blessed I am to be healthy and able to do get in the car and be a carpool mommy. When my oldest was in high school, he dedicated one of his haiku assignments to me, and spoke about the silence, acceptance and love in those journeys. That made it all worthwhile! My oldest two are now in college ? and I miss those moments. When we pause between the small talk or details of life, we can find great joy!

Famous pianist Arthur Rubenstein was asked, ?How do you handle the notes as well as you do?? He answered ?I handle the notes no better than many others, but the pauses ? ah! That is where the music resides!?

As we enter the Spring season, we will post excerpt from the Thin Threads of Moms & Grandmas edition, as well as Thin Threads of Women & Friendship, which teaches us to truly pause to appreciate our friendships, so please stay tuned, ready to breathe in the moments that take you by surprise.

I believe that we all need to pause, in order to be surprised by our own precious connecting moments! If you would like to read some of the stories that Museum of Motherhood founder, Joy Rose and I collected for this 10 story edition (only $7.95), visit our online store, as we will be offering a special beginning this week through Mothers Day ? no shipping costs and we will personalize a label for you as a dedication to Mom in front of the book.
